Vedika Gurukula – a Return to Tradition School of Ayurveda

Vedika Gurukula is a unique, back to tradition school of Ayurveda that is fast becoming a global destination of wellbeing and spirituality seekers, where top quality teachers come together under one roof and teach international seekers what the knowledge they have been longing for all this time.

Ayurveda and its educated seeking is the worldwide trend today, as is the desire to study authentic Indian spiritual traditions that compliment the study and practice of Ayurveda, such as Yoga and Vedanta philosophy, Vastu Shastra, Jyotish, Yajna Shastra, Puja traditions, Kundalini Shakti and Chanting, Meditation, Food Sadhana, Mudra, Bandhas, Kriya etc. Instead of travelling the length and breadth of India in search of rare knowledge and hard to find teachers, the students can now conveniently enroll into the traditionally anchored Vedika Gurukula located in Berkeley, CA for programs from 1 year duration to full 5 year course.

From self healing with Ayurveda to studying subtle spiritual therapies, from Ayurveda psychology, to advanced pharmacology, to six to eight month intensives in Panchakarma, to low cost apprenticeship options in India, Vedika Gurukula is the home to the living tradition of Ayurveda. Vedika has been established specifically for reviving and preserving the oral tradition of studying and practicing Ayurveda in context of its Vedic roots.

At Vedika, students will not only study the ancient knowledge but also live the timeless wisdom in the immersion style Gurukula model of education. From awakening to bed time, the students have a spiritually energized Ayurvedic curriculum that is both ancient and ever fresh in its application.. From the quality of Sattvic or pure food consumed on a daily basis, to the oils applied on the body, and the manner of engaging with life through the medium of our thoughts – Ayurveda has something to teach us at each step; and this is what is taught at Vedika Gurukula with joy and authenticity .

Rooted in the thousand-year-old texts of Ayurveda, the intimate, engaging classes bring alive the living tradition of Ayurveda, both in theory and practice, with detailed discussion of how students can immediately apply this knowledge in their individual lives. The students attention is engaged such a way that it stimulates their own ability to comprehend, imagine and articulate the principles they are hearing about.

Vedika Gurukula offers anchor as well as guest teachers, dedicated staff, a body of therapists and healers who will offer services to students in low cost Ayurveda healing centers (coming soon), an Ayurvedic teaching kitchen, a source text and scriptural library, along with an international faculty of healers and speakers that Vedika invites into the school on a regular basis. This years guests included Dr Sarita Shreshtha (Ayurvedic Gynecologist from Nepal), Dr Ram Karan Sharma (acclaimed Sanskrit professor from India, and translator of Charka Samhita into English), Swami Bodhananda Saraswati (renowned Vedanta scholar from India), Vedmurti Sri Vivek Godbole (traditional Vedic Acharya and Yajna expert from India) and many others who taught subjects ranging from Sanskrit and Ayurvedic cooking to Nada Yoga – healing through sound, etc. Vedika students attended in Los Angeles the 5-day camp taught by India’s renowned Pranayama teacher Swami Ramdev. Vedika’s second year teachers include an Ayurveda doctor to the Governor of Maharashtra state in India, and another on the panel of doctors to major pharmaceutical company’s in India. Vedika’s founder and head teacher Pratichi Mathur is herself a product of this Gurukula tradition. She brings to the school the wisdom of her own rich lineage.

We invite you to join us in this immersion in the knowledge and practice of the sacred science of health, in this cultivation of the great wealth of radiant well-being.
