Janet L. Dobrovolny is not only a high profile successful attorney featured in television and magazines, but also a true humble shishya (student) of her Guru's Swami Muktananda and Swami Chidvilsananda. Janet brings to Vedika Global, Inc her legal expertise as well as passion for the support of indigenous spiritual traditions of Vedic India.
Janet has ensured that Vedika Global's organizational and legal structure has the capacity to fulfill Vedika's spiritual three pronged mission. She remains vigilant to Vedika Global's roots in the Vedic heritage and advises the core team on matters pertaining to it.
Janet started her own law firm which specializes in trust and estate planning and the law of not-for-profit corporations in 1980. Janet is registered with the state of California as a private trustee administering trusts for beneficiaries with special needs. Currently she volunteers her services as legal counsel for a number of non-profit organizations including V-Day, Inc, which is known worldwide for its pioneering work in preventing violence against women.
Janet Dobrovolny attended high school at the University of Illinois Laboratory for Curriculum Development and graduated from Stanford University in l971 at the age of nineteen with a degree in clinical psychology.
Janet is a member of Stanford Cap & Gown, the honorary women's society which admits scholars based on academic merit and community service. After several years of adventure, she attended Hastings College of the Law and received her degree in l978 and was admitted to the California Bar Association. Before starting her own firm, she was a legal intern with the Federal Public Defender in San Francisco and the Alameda County Public Defender. Janet provides legal counsel services to V-Day, a non-profit corporation that distributes funds to grassroots, national, and international organizations and programs that work to stop violence against women and girls. V-Day was named one of Worth Magazine's "100 Best Charities" in 2001.
Janet also volunteers her services as legal counsel to The Muktabodha Indological Research Institute, a non-profit organization dedicated to the study, preservation, and dissemination of the ancient scriptural wisdom of India.
Janet has testified as an expert witness regarding trusts and conservator ships. She is interviewed and extensively quoted regarding trusts in the popular books written by Suze Orman 'You've Earned it Don't Lose It' and 'The 9 Steps to Financial Freedom'.
She has presented estate planning seminars with Suze Orman for public television PBS in Detroit, Michigan, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, California, and Denver, Colorado and Champagne-Urbana, Illinois.
The chapter in Suze Orman's, 'The Road to Wealth' on estate planning was rated the best of all books reviewed by Consumer Reports in 2003. Janet was the legal consultant for the chapter. Janet is also the legal author of the software product 'Suze Orman Protection Portfolio' which has sold in excess of 1,000,000 copies.
The Presidents Council of the University of Illinois Foundation extended membership to Janet based on her fund raising for the JS Dobrovolny Chair in Entrepreneurial Engineering. Janet also serves on the Dean of the Department of Social Work's fund raising committee and is a Jade Circle member of the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco.
